Finding Your Purpose

πŸ“–  Finding Your Purpose

Scripture Focus: Nehemiah 2:1–10
"The king said to me, 'What is it you want?' Then I prayed to the God of heaven, and I answered the king..."Nehemiah 2:4–5

🎯 Purpose Begins with a Burden

Before Nehemiah ever rebuilt the walls, he wept for his people (Nehemiah 1:4). His purpose wasn’t something he invented — it was something that broke his heart.
He saw the destruction in Jerusalem and knew: “I have to do something.”

πŸ‘‰ True purpose often starts with holy discomfort — a burden that moves us into action.

πŸ—️ Key Observations from Nehemiah 2:1–10

πŸ”Ή 1. Nehemiah Had a God-Given Burden (v.1–3)

He was the king’s cupbearer — a high and comfortable position — yet his heart was burdened for God's people.

🧠 Reflection:
What breaks your heart? What need in the world stirs something deep within you?

πŸ”Ή 2. He Prayed Before He Spoke (v.4)

Even in front of the king, Nehemiah paused and prayed before answering. His dependence on God came before strategy or boldness.

🧠 Reflection:
Do you pause to pray before making big decisions? Purpose is birthed and sustained in prayer.

πŸ”Ή 3. He Was Prepared and Clear About His Vision (v.5–8)

When the king asked, “What do you want?” Nehemiah didn’t hesitate. He had a plan, and God gave him favor and provision.

🧠 Reflection:
Are you preparing for the purpose God is stirring in you? Vision must be clear before provision comes.

πŸ”Ή 4. He Knew His Mission Was from God (v.8)

Nehemiah boldly acknowledged, “Because the gracious hand of my God was upon me...” He didn’t take credit — he gave glory.

🧠 Reflection:
When God opens doors, are you quick to give Him glory?

πŸ”Ή 5. He Faced Opposition (v.10)

As soon as Nehemiah began to move in purpose, enemies rose up. Purpose doesn’t guarantee ease — it guarantees impact, and that draws resistance.

🧠 Reflection:
Don’t mistake opposition as a sign you’re off-track — it may be proof you’re exactly where God wants you.

πŸ’¬ Discussion/Group Questions:

  • What’s something you feel God is burdening you with?

  • Are you actively praying about your purpose?

  • What small steps can you take this week to pursue that purpose?

🧭 Takeaway:

Purpose begins with a burden, grows in prayer, and moves forward with faith.
You don’t have to have all the answers. Just say yes — and God will lead the rest.
Amen.

πŸ› Prayer:

Lord, awaken my heart to Your purpose. Give me eyes to see what You care about, ears to hear Your call, and boldness to act in faith. Help me not to be afraid of opposition, but to trust that Your hand is upon me, just as it was with Nehemiah. Amen.
