Pork 🥩 Steak | Bistek Tagalog

Pinoy Pork Steak, also known as "Bistek Tagalog," is a classic Filipino dish that combines the flavors of savory and tangy in one delicious meal. It's a simple yet flavorful recipe that showcases the unique taste of Filipino cuisine.

Traditionally, Pinoy Pork Steak is made using pork shoulder or pork belly sliced into thin pieces. The meat is marinated in a mixture of soy sauce, calamansi juice (or lemon juice), garlic, and pepper, infusing it with rich flavors. The marinade gives the pork a tangy and slightly salty taste, which is then balanced by cooking it with onions.

To cook Pinoy Pork Steak, the marinated pork is seared in a hot pan until browned on both sides. Sliced onions are then added along with the marinade to simmer until the pork is tender and the flavors blend together. The dish is usually served with steamed rice, and the sauce from the pan is drizzled over the meat for added flavor.

Pinoy Pork Steak is a popular choice for family gatherings and special occasions. It’s loved for its simplicity, affordability, and delicious taste. Some variations may include adding vegetables like bell peppers and carrots to enhance the dish with additional colors and textures.

Whether you're a fan of Filipino cuisine or looking to try something new, Pinoy Pork Steak is definitely worth a try. Its robust flavors and tender pork make it a delightful and satisfying meal that both locals and foreigners enjoy.

How to cook Pinoy Pork Steak, also known as "Bistek Tagalog?

Preparing Pinoy Pork Steak, or Bistek Tagalog, is a straightforward process. Here's a step-by-step guide:

Ingredients:
- 1 pound of pork shoulder or pork belly, sliced into thin pieces
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup calamansi juice (or lemon juice if calamansi is not available)
- 4 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 onion, thinly sliced
- Ground black pepper, to taste
- Cooking oil, for searing

Instructions:
1. In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, calamansi juice (or lemon juice), minced garlic, and ground black pepper. Mix them well to create the marinade.

2. Place the pork slices in the marinade, ensuring that each piece is coated evenly. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes to an hour. For deeper flavors, you can marinate it for a longer period, even overnight in the refrigerator.

3. Heat a pan over medium-high heat and add some cooking oil. Once the oil is hot, carefully sear the marinated pork slices until they turn brown and develop a caramelized crust. Do this in batches to avoid overcrowding the pan, which may prevent proper browning. Set aside the seared pork slices.

4. In the same pan, sauté the sliced onions until they become translucent and slightly caramelized. You can use the same oil used for searing the pork, but you may add more oil if needed.

5. Pour the remaining marinade into the pan with the onions. Bring it to a simmer and let it cook for a few minutes to reduce the liquid and intensify the flavors.

6. Add the seared pork slices back into the pan, making sure to coat them with the sauce. Allow them to simmer in the sauce for about 10-15 minutes, or until the pork is tender and fully cooked.

7. Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning according to your preference. You can add more soy sauce or calamansi juice if desired.

8. Once the pork is tender and the flavors have melded together, remove the pan from heat. You can choose to serve the Pinoy Pork Steak as it is or add some garnishments like chopped green onions or fried garlic for extra flavor and presentation.

9. Serve the Pinoy Pork Steak hot with steamed rice. You can drizzle some of the sauce from the pan over the pork slices and rice for added flavor.

Enjoy your homemade Pinoy Pork Steak or Bistek Tagalog!

Chicken Curry

Chicken curry is a delicious and popular dish that originates from the Indian subcontinent but has gained popularity worldwide. It is typically made with a combination of chicken pieces, aromatic spices, and a rich sauce. Here's some information about chicken curry:

1. Ingredients: Chicken curry typically includes chicken pieces (bone-in or boneless), onions, garlic, ginger, tomatoes, spices such as cumin, coriander, turmeric, chili powder, and garam masala. Other ingredients like coconut milk, yogurt, and fresh herbs like cilantro can also be added to enhance the flavor.

2. Cooking Process: The cooking process usually involves marinating the chicken in a mixture of spices and yogurt for added tenderness and flavor. Then, the chicken is cooked with onions, garlic, and ginger to create a flavorful base. Tomatoes are added to the mixture, followed by spices, which impart the characteristic color and taste to the curry. The dish is slow-cooked until the chicken is tender and the flavors have melded together.

3. Variations: Chicken curry recipes can vary across regions and households. Some variations include adding coconut milk to create a creamier, milder curry. Others may use different spice combinations or include additional vegetables like potatoes, bell peppers, or peas.

4. Serving: Chicken curry is commonly served with rice or bread such as naan or roti. It can also be accompanied by side dishes like raita (yogurt-based condiment), pickles, or chutneys to add contrasting flavors.

5. Health Benefits: Chicken curry can provide various health benefits. Chicken is a good source of lean protein, while the spices used in curry, such as turmeric and ginger, possess anti-inflammatory properties. The inclusion of vegetables adds vitamins and minerals to the dish.

6. Cultural Significance: Curry dishes, including chicken curry, have cultural significance and are often enjoyed as a communal meal. In countries like India, Pakistan, and Thailand, curry is an integral part of everyday cuisine and is often prepared and shared during special occasions and festivals.

Whether you prefer a mild or spicy version, chicken curry offers a delightful blend of flavors and aromas that can be enjoyed by people of all backgrounds and tastes.

- 1 cup coconut milk
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 2 tablespoons curry powder
- 1 tablespoon fish sauce (optional, for added umami flavor)
- 2 tablespoons cooking oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh cilantro leaves, chopped (for garnish)

9. Once done, remove it from the heat and let it rest for a few minutes.

10. Serve the chicken curry in bowls, garnished with fresh cilantro leaves.

11. Enjoy your homemade Pinoy chicken curry with steamed rice or bread!

Feel free to adjust the spiciness level by adding more or less curry powder, depending on your preference. You can also add other vegetables like peas or green beans if desired.
