**The Seven Last Words of Jesus Christ**

As we reflect on the profound moments leading up to the crucifixion of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, we can learn from His final words spoken from the cross. Each statement is rich with meaning and significance, offering insight into His mission and love for humanity. Let’s explore these seven last words along with their corresponding scriptures:

1. **"Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing."**
   *Luke 23:34*
This plea for forgiveness reveals Jesus' immense compassion even in His suffering. It reminds us of the power of forgiveness in our own lives.
In this powerful statement, Jesus exemplifies ultimate forgiveness. Despite being mocked, beaten, and crucified, He intercedes for those who wronged Him. This teaches us the profound nature of God's grace. It challenges us to extend forgiveness to others, even when it seems undeserved, mirroring Christ's mercy. Our own journey toward forgiveness can begin by recognizing that everyone makes mistakes and often acts out of ignorance. How might we practice forgiveness in our own lives today?

2. **"Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise."**
   *Luke 23:43*
Spoken to the repentant thief, this promise underscores the immediacy of salvation through faith. It signifies that no one is beyond hope, regardless of their past. Jesus’ words reveal that salvation is accessible to all, particularly those who turn to Him in genuine repentance. This statement ignites hope within us, reminding us to share the message of salvation with others, especially those who feel lost or unworthy.

3. **"Woman, behold your son; behold your mother."**
   *John 19:26-27*
In His final moments, Jesus cared for His mother, showing us the importance of love and responsibility towards our family.
Here, Jesus entrusts the care of His mother, Mary, to the disciple John. This act emphasizes the importance of community and familial connections. Even in His suffering, Jesus prioritized relationships, showing us the value of caring for one another. This calls us to reflect on our responsibilities towards our families and communities. How can we support those around us, especially during difficult times?

4. **"My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"**
   *Matthew 27:46*
Expressing His deep anguish, this cry reflects the weight of sin He bore for us, reminding us of His sacrifice and the cost of our salvation.
This cry expresses deep anguish and a feeling of abandonment as Jesus bears the weight of humanity’s sin. It echoes Psalm 22, highlighting both His fulfillment of prophecy and His human experience of suffering. This moment tells us that it is okay to express our feelings of despair and abandonment during hard times. Jesus experienced real emotions, providing a model for us to be honest about our struggles while also trusting in God’s presence.

5. **"I thirst."**
   *John 19:28*
This simple statement reflects His physical suffering but also speaks to a deeper spiritual thirst for humanity to seek Him and His righteousness.
On the surface, this statement reflects a physical need for water. However, it also symbolizes a deeper spiritual thirst. Jesus longs for a relationship and righteousness. As we connect this to our own lives, we are reminded of the ways we seek fulfillment in material things, rather than in Christ. This leads us to question: What are we truly thirsting for? Are we looking for satisfaction in the right places? Jesus invites us to quench our spiritual thirst in Him, the living water (John 4:14).

6. **"It is finished."**
   *John 19:30*
With these words, Jesus declared the completion of His redemptive work on the cross. He fulfilled the prophecies of the Old Testament and paid the penalty for sin once and for all, ushering in grace. This statement gives us assurance that our salvation does not depend on our works but on His finished work. It encourages us to rest in the grace of God, freeing us from the burdens of guilt and performance. We are called to live in the freedom He provides, knowing our salvation is secure.

7. **"Father, into your hands I commit my spirit!"**
   *Luke 23:46*
In His final breath, Jesus surrendered Himself to the Father, teaching us the importance of trust and submission to God's will.
This final word signifies total surrender and trust in the Father, despite the agony He faced. Jesus' commitment to God demonstrates ultimate faith and submission. For us, it serves as a reminder to place our lives in God’s hands, trusting His plans even when they are difficult to see. How can we practice surrender in our daily lives? This could mean letting go of control, fears, or anxieties, and entrusting them to God, who knows what is best for us.

As we meditate on these words, let us remember the sacrifice of Christ and the love He demonstrated for us. Each phrase invites us to reflect on our relationships, our need for forgiveness, and ultimately, the hope we have in Him.

May these 7 Last Words inspire us to deepen our relationship with Christ, extend grace to others, and embrace the hope and salvation that is offered through His sacrifice. Each word holds immense depth and invites us to reflect on our faith, our relationships, and our purpose as followers of Christ. Let us pray for understanding and strength to live out these lessons in our lives.

Join us in prayer, asking the Holy Spirit to help us live out these lessons in our daily lives.
