Calaruega Church ⛪🌿

Calaruega Church in Nasugbu, Batangas: A Sanctuary for All Seasons 🌧️☀️⛪🌿

Nestled in the lush hills of Nasugbu, Batangas, Calaruega Church is more than just a wedding destination—it is a sanctuary where nature, faith, and serenity intertwine. Famous for its postcard-worthy views and peaceful ambiance, Calaruega has long been a favorite of pilgrims, couples, families, and travelers who wish to take a break from the noise of city life.

We visited in August, during the rainy season, and the place felt like stepping into a magical world. The sky was overcast, the air crisp, and the grounds blanketed in mist and fresh greenery. The atmosphere was so calming—it makes you want to just sit quietly, sip a cup of hot coffee or hot chocolate, and gaze at the rolling hills wrapped in fog.

A Place That Changes With the Seasons 🌦️☀️

One of the most beautiful things about Calaruega is how the weather transforms the atmosphere.

🌧️ Rainy Season
The gloominess becomes strangely comforting. The sound of raindrops and flowing water, the fresh earthy scent, and the mist-covered trees bring an aura of peace and reflection. Walking through the gardens, crossing the hanging bridge, and pausing at the koi ponds feel like scenes from a serene retreat. The rainy season makes you slow down and embrace the stillness.

☀️ Summer Season
In contrast, summer turns Calaruega into a lively, colorful escape. The flowers bloom vibrantly, the skies turn a striking blue, and the wide open grounds invite you to explore. It’s the perfect time to lay down on the green grass, watch the clouds drift across the sky, and wait for the sunset at the back of the mountains. Even the hanging bridge becomes thrilling to cross, surrounded by sunlit views and a playful energy.

Whichever season you choose, Calaruega offers a unique experience—serenity in the rain, adventure in the sun.

The Three Chapels of Calaruega ⛪✨

Calaruega is not just one chapel—it is home to three distinct chapels, each with its own charm and story:

  1. The Main Chapel on the Hill – This is the most iconic and most photographed spot in Calaruega. Perched proudly on top of a hill, this rustic chapel is a favorite for weddings and solemn visits. Its timeless beauty and breathtaking backdrop of hills make it a centerpiece of faith and celebration.

  2. The Open Space Chapel – Tucked away also on top of the hill, this chapel is reached by passing through the gardens, koi ponds, the hanging bridge, and the Station of the Cross. It’s a perfect place for reflection, outdoor mass, and quiet moments with nature surrounding you.

  3. The Lower Hill Chapel – Located on the lower hilly part of the grounds, this chapel boasts concrete flooring, an architecturally lovely staircase inside, and a middle circle garden that makes it feel both grounded and elegant. It may be less known compared to the main chapel, but it has its own charm for those who explore further.

Entrance Fees and Hours 🕰️

  • ₱50 per person

  • ₱40 per vehicle (parking)

  • Open daily from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

More to Explore 🌄

Beyond the chapels, Calaruega is a sprawling haven filled with gardens, nature trails, quiet nooks for prayer, and scenic spots perfect for photography. The combination of natural beauty and spiritual atmosphere makes it one of the most unique places to visit in Batangas.

Final Thoughts 💭

Our visit during the rainy season was a heart-refreshing experience. The mist, the cool air, and the greenery gave us peace like no other. But Calaruega is the kind of place you’ll want to return to—whether in rainy season for its calm serenity or in summer for its colorful liveliness. Each visit offers something new, and each chapel tells its own story.
