iStariray23 Photos_Kenon Road

That greenery that you don't see every day...

Those pine trees growing on the cliff...

Those mountains that give you a sight to behold. . .

Kennon Road is a famous and scenic mountain highway located in the Philippines, specifically in the province of Benguet. It was named after its principal builder, Colonel Lyman Walter Vere Kenny of the United States Army Corps of Engineers. The road was constructed between 1903 and 1905 and was initially designed as a way to connect Baguio City, a popular tourist destination, to the lowlands.

One of the notable features of Kennon Road is its remarkable engineering design. It winds through the picturesque mountains of the Cordillera Central range, showcasing breathtaking views of the surrounding forests and valleys. The road consists of numerous bends and switchbacks, often referred to as "zig-zags," which add to its charm and challenge to drivers.

Kennon Road offers travelers a unique experience as they ascend to higher altitudes. Along the way, visitors may spot beautiful waterfalls, such as Bridal Veil Falls and Colorado Falls, and enjoy panoramic viewpoints where they can pause and take in the stunning vistas. This road also provides access to other popular landmarks, including the famous Lion's Head and Mount Costa, a well-known garden park.

It's worth noting that due to its location and challenging terrain, Kennon Road is prone to landslides and other natural hazards, especially during heavy rains or typhoons. As a result, the road may be periodically closed for safety reasons. To mitigate these risks, ongoing efforts are made to reinforce and maintain the road's stability.

Overall, Kennon Road remains an iconic and cherished part of the country's history and a must-visit for those seeking to embark on a scenic drive through the majestic mountains of the Philippines.
