RITM stands for Research Institute for Tropical Medicine.

It is a government-run health facility in the Philippines under the Department of Health (DOH). RITM is dedicated to the research, diagnosis, training, and treatment of tropical and infectious diseases, such as dengue, rabies, malaria, tuberculosis, HIV, and emerging viruses.

👧 A Personal Experience: Emergency Visit for Rabies Post-Exposure Vaccination

Recently, our beloved pet cats accidentally scratched my daughter on her neck and arms during playtime. Though it wasn’t a deep wound, the location of the scratch—her neck—prompted serious concern. We immediately took her to RITM Alabang’s Animal Bite Clinic, aware of the potential risks of rabies exposure.

 
 

Upon consultation, the attending doctor classified her case as a Category III exposure—the highest level, due to the proximity to her head and multiple scratches. It was considered an emergency situation.

We were guided to:

Register online through their digital system,
Pay ₱1,750 for the initial medicines and vaccine (this covered the first dose and necessary immunoglobulin),
And return on scheduled dates for the remaining two vaccine doses, which were completely free.

We only needed to show up on the assigned days, and the clinic managed the rest. The process was smooth, organized, and handled with care.

We are incredibly grateful to RITM’s staff—their professionalism, urgency, and compassion made a frightening moment feel manageable.
