Binuguey

Binuguey- Bolinao's Local Delicacy

That sticky rice in a bamboo shell container made our morning after a stroll in the Light House. Just, right outside the lighthouse vicinity stood a store of this sticky rice. I already saw this in some online Vlogs and Blogs. A must-try when you visit Bolinao, for only Php 35.00 for small-size bamboo and Php 50.00 for the biggest one.

This is actually like Biko less the sugar mixture on it. Per Manang, who is selling this delicious sticky rice this is made of malagkit na bigas, coconut milk cooked inside the fresh bamboo shell. You could actually smell the aroma of the bamboo coming together as you opened the banana leaf covering the bamboo opening. It made me so excited to dig my bamboo spoon into it and it did not disappoint :).

I actually enjoyed eating this rice, not only the taste but also the container and the spoon itself. I hoarded several of these before we left Bolinao and kiddos actually loved it.

These goodies were available around Bolinao, like tourist destinations, the marketplace, bus terminals, etc.

Bolinao Light House | Cape Bolinao Light House

A must-see when you set your foot in Bolinao Pangasinan.

Any travel will not be complete if you failed to visit a famous landmark in one's place. I guess that's the very essence of your travel in seeing it with your own eyes and be in that very exact place like what you saw in the pages of the book or pictures from the Internet.-istariray23

Bolinao Lighthouse is a representation of a thriving community of long ago. It holds different stories of people's lives living on its edge. Stories of strangers who just passed by this lighthouse or even the ships guided by the light of this Parola. I don't know, but it actually warms my heart whenever I see structures build long ago... it made me wonder the stories it witness and how many storms and strong winds gone by yet the lighthouse is still there.... stood still in the middle of those nights and will count another more years to come...

Let me share a little history of this lighthouse from Wikipedia. There are actually a lot of articles written about it that you could check online.

The Cape Bolinao Lighthouse at Patar rises 351 feet (107 m) above sea level atop Punta Piedra Point, a towering hill of solid rock which is the sharp point of Cape Bolinao itself. It was built by the Americans in 1903 on a 351 feet (107 m) high promontory at the western part of Cape Bolinao, the lighthouse still sends signals to vessels passing by the area.

The lighthouse provides a panoramic view of a portion of the 1,269 hectares Cape Bolinao Dendro Thermal Ipil-Ipil Plantation on a land area where archaeological excavations have revealed relics from the 14th to the 15th centuries. Filipino, British and American engineers constructed the lighthouse in 1905.

According to the Bureau of Geodetic Surveys, the land elevation is 250 feet (76 m). Visibility is 20 miles (32 km; 17 nmi) at midsea towards the lighthouse in Poro Point. The winding stairway has 6 platforms with 20 steps or rungs for a total of 120 steps plus 14 more to the illumination room, or an over-all total of 134 steps.

Bolinao Light House is open as early as 7AM until 5PM. There is NO Entrance Fee, No Parking Fee- however, you have to look for your own parking as there is no parking allotted to visitors. Going inside the lighthouse is "PROHIBITED DUE TO WEAK STRUCTURES" declared by the local civil engineer office of Bolinao. Upon hearing this, my excitement sank down, I actually wanted to go inside and climb the top and enjoy the view. Being a law-abiding citizen, I did not insist and just admired her beauty from the ground.

The facade is Instagram-worthy as well as the surroundings- you just have to be creative to include the lighthouse in your selfie :). For me, the lighthouse itself is a Beauty.

Sungayan Grille & Balingasay River

Your Bolinao Experience will not be complete if you will not drop by the floating Sungayan Grille in Balingasay River. We had our late lunch/early dinner in this place and I can say that we left with our tummy filled and satisfied.

The floating resto named after Bolinao's local fish called Sinungay Fish. I haven't heard nor seen one of this fish before yet this is a local delicacy in this area. I loved the meat of this fish far better than tilapia and of course milk fish. The white delicious meat were indeed good and safe for kiddos since it don't have little fish bones on it like in milk fish. And the meat is very tasty too.

The floating resto gives a very probinsya feels as it is overlooking the one of the cleanest river in the country. I saw some small fishes on the river and I could even see the river bank's bottom visible from where I am standing from. They don't have any website that you could visit however they do have a facebook page that you could check- Sungayan Grill Facebook Page

The ambiance is so peaceful and quiet, very relaxing. I actually loved what I see from where I was sitting. The greens across the river adds life and the little waves created by a passing banca makes the floating resto moved that brings cheer to my soul.

Their prices were competitive and affordable.
