๐Ÿ’” A Heartbreaking Reminder & A Call for Action

๐Ÿ’” A Heartbreaking Reminder & A Call for Action

Yesterday (12 August 2025 Tuesday), I was deeply wounded by another tragic loss—a volleyball player at Rizal Technological University (RTU) took her/his own life after being unable to graduate. According to a bonafide student who witnessed the incident, the pain it caused was profound, yet it went largely unreported on social media, as if to hide the reality. But the sorrow remains.

Sadly, this is not the first time RTU has faced such tragedy. In October 2023, a Grade 7 student, Yuwan Lorenzo Magdato, died by suicide on campus following an alleged incident involving cheating and disciplinary action. The case generated public outcry and was investigated with calls for transparency and accountability.MediumPhilstar.com

This post is not just a message of sympathy—it’s a plea to RTU’s management: please act now. These tragedies should not be incidents to sweep under the rug. Our students’ mental and emotional well-being depends on real support, meaningful policies, and open dialogue—not just reactive statements.

It reminds us of a timeless truth: trials are real, but so is hope—especially when rooted in faith.

๐Ÿ“– “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28
๐Ÿ“– “The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” – Psalm 34:18
๐Ÿ“– “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33

To anyone who feels overwhelmed—please reach out. Don’t face darkness alone. Talk to a friend, a mentor, or run to God. He is our refuge and strength, even when we can’t see it now.

๐Ÿ•Š “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11

Let’s continuously lift up the student’s family, friends, and the entire RTU community in prayer. May God’s peace surround them, and may this tragic moment spark lasting change—that no student ever faces this alone again.

**September: Suicide Prevention Month**

As we step into the month of September, we acknowledge and raise awareness for an important cause - Suicide Prevention. This month is dedicated to promoting mental health, offering support, and spreading hope to those who may be struggling with thoughts of suicide.

Suicide is a complex issue that can affect anyone, regardless of age, background, or circumstances. It is crucial to understand that suicidal thoughts are often a result of intense emotional pain and feelings of hopelessness. By fostering a culture of empathy, understanding, and support, we can help prevent suicide and provide a lifeline to those in need.

During Suicide Prevention Month, let us come together as a community to amplify our voices and take meaningful action. Here are some ways you can make a difference:

1. **Raise Awareness**:
Share information about suicide prevention resources, warning signs, and ways to offer support. Education is key in breaking the stigma surrounding mental health issues.

2. **Offer Support**:
Be a compassionate listener to those who are struggling. Encourage open conversations about mental health and provide a safe space for people to express their feelings.

3. **Seek Help**:
If you or someone you know is experiencing thoughts of suicide, do not hesitate to reach out for help. There are helplines, therapists, support groups, and other resources available to provide assistance and guidance.

4. **Practice Self-Care**:
Take care of your own mental health and well-being. Prioritize self-care activities that bring you comfort and relaxation. Remember, you cannot pour from an empty cup.

5. **Spread Hope**:
Let us spread messages of hope, resilience, and recovery. Every small act of kindness and support can make a difference in someone's life.

Together, we can create a world where mental health is valued, support is readily available, and no one feels alone in their struggles. Let us stand united in advocating for suicide prevention and promoting a culture of compassion and understanding.

Remember, you are not alone. Help is always available. Your story matters, and there is hope for a brighter tomorrow. Let us shine a light of love and empathy during Suicide Prevention Month and beyond.
