A Gathering of Memories and Faith🕊

Last night 17 Aug 2025 Sunday, we visited the wake of my dear Godmother who recently passed away. It was a tender and bittersweet moment—saying goodbye to someone who has been a part of my journey, yet also finding comfort in the presence of familiar faces from our church community.

She was not only my Godmother, but also our churchmate. Together with her husband, Pastor Rico, they faithfully served in our local church before God led them to minister in another congregation. Their lives reflected dedication, humility, and a deep love for the Lord’s work.

As I entered the chapel, the quiet hum of prayers filled the air. Though sorrow lingered, there was also a sense of peace. The gathering unexpectedly became a small reunion. I was able to greet fellow church members, share updates about our lives, and remember the good times we had shared through the years.

It reminded me of the words in Ecclesiastes 3:1-2: “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die…” Truly, life is fleeting, and moments like these remind us to hold on to faith and to cherish the people God has placed in our lives.

As we shared stories about my Godmother, I was moved by how her faith and kindness left a lasting imprint on many. She lived a life that reflected 2 Timothy 4:7: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

Though the wake was a solemn occasion, it also became a quiet celebration of life and faith—a reminder that death is not the end, but the beginning of eternal life with Christ. As Jesus said in John 11:25: “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.”

In the end, my Godmother’s passing brought not only grief, but also the blessing of reconnection—with friends, with family, and most importantly, with God’s promise of eternal life.

Ecclesiastes Chapter 3

Hermana Manor in Sta. Cruz, Zambales

"In God's Time: Reflecting on Ecclesiastes 3"

Verse: Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 (NIV) - "There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens..."

Ecclesiastes 3
New International Version

A Time for Everything

3 There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:

2     a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot,

3     a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build,

4     a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance,

5     a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,

6     a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,

7     a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,

8     a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

9 What do workers gain from their toil? 10 I have seen the burden God has laid on the human race. 11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet[a] no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end. 12 I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. 13 That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of God. 14 I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that people will fear him.

15 Whatever is has already been,
    and what will be has been before;
and God will call the past to account.

16 And I saw something else under the sun:
In the place of judgment—wickedness was there,
in the place of justice—wickedness was there.

17 I said to myself,

“God will bring into judgment
both the righteous and the wicked,
for there will be a time for every activity,
a time to judge every deed.”

18 I also said to myself, “As for humans, God tests them so that they may see that they are like the animals. 19 Surely the fate of human beings is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath[c]; humans have no advantage over animals. Everything is meaningless. 20 All go to the same place; all come from dust, and to dust all return. 21 Who knows if the human spirit rises upward and if the spirit of the animal goes down into the earth?”

22 So I saw that there is nothing better for a person than to enjoy their work, because that is their lot. For who can bring them to see what will happen after them?

Introduction:
In the book of Ecclesiastes, we are reminded of the profound wisdom that everything has its appointed time in God's perfect plan. Let us explore the timeless truths found in Ecclesiastes 3, focusing on the theme of "In God's Time."

Key Points:
1. Divine Appointments: Reflect on the concept that God has ordained specific times and seasons for every aspect of our lives. How does this truth bring comfort and assurance in times of waiting or uncertainty?

2. Embracing Seasons: Consider the various seasons mentioned in Ecclesiastes 3 - a time to plant and uproot, a time to weep and laugh. How can we learn to embrace each season with faith and trust in God's sovereign timing?

3. Trusting God's Timing: Discuss the importance of trusting in God's perfect timing, even when our own plans and desires seem delayed. How can we cultivate patience and perseverance as we wait for God's promises to unfold?

4. Finding Peace in Transition: Explore how Ecclesiastes 3 acknowledges the inevitability of change and transition in life. How can we find peace and strength in knowing that God is with us through every season of life?

5. Eternal Perspective: Consider the eternal perspective offered in Ecclesiastes 3:11 - "He has made everything beautiful in its time." How does this truth encourage us to view our present circumstances in light of God's greater purpose and plan?

Reflection:
Take a moment to reflect on a season of waiting or transition in your life. Consider how God's timing has been at work, even when it may have seemed unclear or challenging. What lessons have you learned about trust, patience, and surrender during this season?

Application:
How can you apply the principles of Ecclesiastes 3 to your current circumstances? What steps can you take to embrace God's timing with a heart of faith and obedience? Spend some time in prayer, seeking God's guidance and strength to walk in alignment with His perfect plan.

Closing Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the wisdom and truth found in Your Word. As we reflect on Ecclesiastes 3 and the timeless reminder of Your perfect timing, we surrender our plans and desires to You. Help us to trust in Your sovereign will, knowing that You make all things beautiful in Your time. Grant us patience, faith, and perseverance as we wait for Your promises to unfold. May Your presence be our guide through every season of life. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
